ABOUT WALKERS HAT SHOP

Walkers Hat Shop was started by Elaine Walker in 1962. An Avid tennis player (and a flaming red head) she was concerned about sun damage long before it became fashionable. Elaine started with one sewing machine on a kitchen table, striving to make a visor that was washable, comfortable, provided the best sun protection, and would still allow her to see well enough for her killer overhead smash. Her son Don, took over the business in 1976 and now sells sun visors and hats all over the world in better pro shops and sporting goods stores. Walkers Hat Shop remains a small, family run business dedicated to quality and customer service.

WHAT ARE OUR HATS AND VISORS MADE OF?

We use polyester cotton blend fabric, from 70/30 to 65/35
In between the outer layers are sandwiched two layers of a non-woven fabric, similar to upholstery lining. The outside stiffener is similar to tooth brush material.

WILL IT FIT?

Our visors use a hook and loop fastener similar to Velcro in the back, so they are very adjustable. If you have an unusually large head or are concerned, let us know and we'll make the fastener longer just to be sure! We were the first to use Velcro as a fastener in the early sixty's, but found the quality declined in the early eighty's. We now use another brand which is the very best quality that we can find. Our women's hats also use the same fastener in the back. The Petal style is "fuller" to allow for more hair and our Lace style fits on the head more like a baseball cap. One size fits most everyone. Our men's hats however, are sized, and if anything run a little to the small side.

DO YOU MAKE CUSTOM HATS?

Yes and no... We will make any permutation (small changes) of our hats and visors that we are able, but it becomes cost prohibitive to make a new design from scratch.

DO YOU MAKE BASEBALL, WESTERN, CLIP ON, OR PLASTIC HATS?

No, what you see on the website is all that we make. All our hats and visors are proudly made in the United States of America.

SHOULD I ORDER ON THE WEB OR BY PHONE?

This is completely up to you. If you order online, you WILL receive a confirmation by email within 12 hours during the week, or first thing Monday morning. If you don't receive a confirmation, we didn't receive your order. We are surprised by the number of people who forget to include contact information such as address or phone number but do include charge card information. If you haven't received a response, CALL! If you have any questions, or want to clarify a special order, please either call, or include an explanation in the note area of the order form.

HOW SOON WILL I RECEIVE MY ORDER?

We ship Priority Mail or UPS. All normal orders are sent out the same or the following business day. Custom orders may take longer, but you will be notified. Federal Express is also available, but at substantially higher cost.

IS YOUR SITE SECURE?

YES...We use state-of-the-art, 128-bit encryption, with a SSL and CSR provided by Geotrust. Only the online order form needs to be, and is secure.

DO YOU SELL YOUR CUSTOMER LIST OR ANY OTHER INFORMATION?

NO, NO, NO a thousand times NO!

HOW MUCH IS SHIPPING?

Shipping is $5.90 for the first 2 items ordered, $7.90 up to 4 items and $10.90 for 5 or more items. (Don't forget you receive a 10% discount when you order three or more items) If you need FedX the charges are substantially higher.

WHAT ABOUT SALES TAX?

Sales tax must be charged for orders shipped anywhere in California. For now, no sales tax will be charged for orders shipped anywhere else, although our legislature is considering changing this.

THREE INCH, FOUR INCH, OR FIVE INCH BRIM?

The four inch ladies brim provides the most sun protection for the sides of the face and ears and is our most popular. The five inch provides the most for the nose and cheeks. The three inch provides less protection than the four, and looks smaller.

CAN I GET TERRY CLOTH?

We can put terry cloth in the inside of the band (the part up against your forehead) but we are limited to White, Navy, Brown, Pink, Red, Ecru, Powder, Black, Forest Green, and Lavender. It's nice to match the color to the underside of the brim, but you can always specify white or another color. If you don't specify, you will get a matching color if available, otherwise white terry cloth.

WHAT COLOR(S) SHOULD I ORDER?

Of course, this is completely up to you. We can make solid colors, or any combination of colors. (Eg. Pink on top purple on bottom) Here is something to keep in mind however. For maximum sun protection, white on top with any color (the darker the better) underneath is the best. The white will reflect the heat and sun, while the dark color under will absorb rather than reflect back into your eyes. A dark color under is cooler than a light color. However, if you are around dirty conditions, solid colors will show the dirt less than white.

WHAT HOURS ARE YOU OPEN?

We are open from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. This allows us to provide the best service to most time zones. We all love the weekends, and as often as we can we close early on Fridays.
